Blank-fire cartridges possess all of the typical components of a regular round of ammunition except for the lethal projectile. They are typically used for dog training, high-stress inoculation, and movie productions. Since these .38 special rounds are excellent noisemakers, you can use them in a regular revolver when a starter pistol is needed, or test the internal assembly of a freshly smithed piece when a firing range is not available.

Each round utilizes clean-burning powder housed with a brass casing which is fitted with a non-corrosive boxer primer. The construction is stopped by a hard cardboard card at the top which keeps the components from spilling out. Instead of standard straight wall crimping, this cartridge features a slightly rolled edge in place of a bullet.
