Georg Luger was born in 1849, and it wasn’t until he volunteered for military service as a Reserve Officer Cadet that he began to realize what he wanted to do with his life. It was during his time with the 78th Infantry Regiment that his superior marksmanship made him stand out among his peers, which led to his commanding officer sending him to a firearms school. While Luger was attending the school he became interested in automatic loading systems, but even so he ended up becoming an accountant after graduation. And yet his love of firearms remained; in 1875 he designed two new rifle magazines, and he began working in the industry in earnest. In 1901, he created the 9x19mm Luger/Parabellum, the cartridge that was to become the most popular semi-auto round on the market. If you own a 9mm, you have Georg Luger to thank, and this ammo to buy.
