Calling the InterLock a “soft point” is like calling the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder a “car.” It’s technically correct, but it overlooks what makes the bullet truly special.

Hornady loads their American Whitetail series 270 Win cartridge with a 140 grain InterLock. The bullet wears a highly concentric jacket to ensure peak gyroscopic stability, and possesses a ballistically efficient secant ogive profile as well. Its 2,940 fps muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel gives the InterLock a G1 BC of 0.486. In practical terms, that means you can anticipate a 300-yard trajectory that doesn’t rise higher than 4.9” above a 1.5” sight line.

The InterLock is one tough cookie. Its jacket is physically embedded within its core in two places: the cannelure, and the InterLock ring just behind the cannelure. The InterLock’s jacket becomes progressively thinner the closer it gets to its exposed lead tip, and is also strategically weakened by inner grooves. That secures quick and lethal expansion hundreds of yards downrange.
