- Q & A
CCI was founded by Richard Speer in 1951, who was a Boeing machinist prior to his going into the ammunition business. Due to the shortages of metals after World War II, Richard Speer realized he needed to take a different approach to helping shooters, and ended up creating a new primer. His primer was and is non-mercuric and non-corrosive, and his formula allowed handloaders to have a ready supply despite the shortages in war surplus primers. Today CCI is specifically known for their superior primers, but they’re also known for their high-quality ammunition. One type of ammunition they started making in 1957 was shotshells, and among their many products are these .45 ACP shotshells.
These are 120 grain .45ACP rounds loaded with #9 shot. The pellets are contained in a rigid plastic case that breaks when the round is fired while the flexible wad at the round’s base prevents gas blow-by. Each round has impressive speed with a muzzle velocity of 1100 feet per second and delivers an absolutely lethal blow. This ammunition is designed for pest control and is commonly used to kill snakes although it can be used for other small varmints as well. Experienced marksmen who have used these shotshells praise their lethality within about 10 feet. Reviewers also say they pattern similar to 410 shotguns within that same approximate range.
You get 10 rounds in this box. This ammunition is made by CCI at their established plant in Lewiston, Idaho, which is located right on the banks of the Snake River. If you’re using shotshells in your pistol, it’s important to keep in mind that they function at their best in semi-auto’s. If used in revolvers, they may cause failures. Although these rounds are made for pest control, they’re also a lot of fun for target shooting. If you’ve never fired shotshell rounds through your .45 ACP, it’s absolutely worth placing your order just to try them out regardless of your pest control needs. These are powerful rounds that are fully capable of dispatching pests, and they’re also enjoyable for destroying pop cans. Whatever your reason may be, get your order in, and find out why so many seasoned shooters swear by shotshell for their pistols.
