- Q & A
In 1922 Charles Horn visited a factory that had been founded in 1916 and was failing after just six years of business. Horn believed he could turn the factory into a success, so he took over, re-founding it as Federal. He started Federal by selling the company’s ammunition in barber shops, grocery stores, and gas stations, something you cannot do today, which is rather unfortunate because it would be fantastic. Once Federal began to do well it was only a matter of time before they became truly successful, and it came in the form of a government contract to build and operate what is now known as the Twin City Ordnance Plant. Today Federal has almost 100 years of experience manufacturing ammunition and is respected in the industry.
These Federal rounds are for your .308 Win. At 149 grain they’re moderately weighted, still light enough to reach high speeds but heavy enough to deal a substantial blow on impact. These are Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) rounds and so do not expand on impact. In fact, target rounds such as these can travel literally for miles before coming to a stop, making it extremely important you have a solid backstop in place. Each of these rounds has a muzzle velocity of 2735 feet per second and muzzle energy of 2485 foot-pounds. This ammunition is ideal for target practice, shooting drills, and plinking.
There are 500 target rounds in this single box of Federal ammunition. With this much ammo you can spend serious time with your favorite rifle working on shot placement, grouping, and firing from a variety of positions, including kneeling and prone. And if you’re a hunter it’s important to get trigger time outside of hunting season, and this box is a great choice for improving your skills in the off-season. This ammunition is MIL-SPEC and that means there must be visual evidence of annealing on the cases, so cases may appear smudged or dirty, but they’re supposed to look that way. Federal manufactures ammunition at their factory in Anoka, Minnesota. Place your order now and feed your .308.
