In 1922, a 6-year-old plant in Anoka, Minnesota, was failing, and when Charles Horn took a look, he knew he could turn it into something not only successful but impressive. First came sales in filling stations and barber shops, then an 87 million dollar contract with the U.S. government to build and run the now-well-known Twin City Ordnance Plant, and now, almost a century later, every shooter knows the name of Federal. Federal continues to produce ammunition at their original plant in Anoka, Minnesota, always adhering to strict standards and following specific guidelines. Their ammunition is high-quality and reliable, much like the company itself.
These .40 cal rounds weigh in at 180 grain, making them fairly heavy for the cartridge size. They’re FMJ’s, ideal for target practice, shooting drills, and plinking, just keep in mind target rounds do not expand on contact and tend to over-penetrate, so have a good backstop. Federal manufactures these rounds in new production brass cases with boxer primer, so you can collect your spent brass, reload, and feed your gun a second time. They’re also designed to be non-corrosive, which is easier on your gun’s barrel. These rounds fly down-range with a muzzle velocity of 1000 feet per second and punch with a muzzle energy of 400 foot-pounds.
There are 50 target rounds in this box. With 50 rounds you can load a few mags and sling lead down-range for a bit, although if you get more than one box you’ll be able to shoot that much longer. This box is the perfect size for dropping in your range bag or stacking in the corner of your safe, so whether you choose to use it up immediately or save it for later, Federal has you covered. This is good quality, made-in-America target ammunition made by a company with a solid, long-standing reputation. Give your gun a healthy snack by feeding it Federal.
