- Q & A
The 8mm Mauser, as it is known by its SAAMI designation, is also known as the 8x57mm and 7.92x57mm. Germany adopted the cartridge in 1905, using it for not one but both World Wars. At those times the 8mm Mauser was a popular military round. Perhaps the best known rifle chambered in this cartridge was the Gewehr 88, also called the Model 1888 (M/88). Today it’s used mostly by sport shooters but is also used by some hunters.
If you hunt with your 8mm Mauser, take a look at these rounds made by Federal. Each round weighs in at 170 grain which makes these rather lightweight for the cartridge size. Because they are lighter weight they’re able to travel down-range at higher speeds, but they’re still heavy enough to strike targets with significant force. These are SP, Soft Point, rounds and begin to expand on impact. SPs expand more slowly than HPs, allowing for greater penetration. This ammunition is great for hunting game such as whitetail deer.
When you order this single box of ammunition from Federal you get 20 rounds. This box is just the right size for carrying in your pack or even in your pants-leg pocket when you’re headed out on a hunt. It’s also a good size for stacking on the shelf of your gun safe, because you can never have too much ammo! These rounds are produced in fresh brass cases with boxer primer and can be reloaded. Federal manufactures ammunition at their factory in Anoka, Minnesota according to high standards for quality and performance. Order now to make your next hunt great.
