- Q & A
The name of Hornady is synonymous with quality, and for good reason. Hornady’s been in business since 1949, and for more than six decades they’ve continually come up with new, innovative ways to improve ammunition. Since day one their goal has been to provide gun owners with superior ammunition, and they’ve certainly done that, and more. When Joyce Hornady founded the company it was based on the idea of “ten rounds through one hole” and today the company continues to follow his lead. If you want ammunition you can count on, you want Hornady.
Reliable ammunition is even more important when it’s a defense round. These are Hornady’s Critical Duty rounds, loaded to pass FBI standards for penetration and designed for terminal performance. At 220 grain these are heavy rounds capable of striking targets with enormous force. These are Hornady’s FTX rounds, delivering rapid energy transfer and beginning to expand immediately upon impact. As these rounds mushroom, they slow down, creating a deep, devastating wound cavity while preventing over-penetration, which protects innocent bystanders. Each round leaves the barrel of your .45 ACP with a muzzle velocity of 975 feet per second and muzzle energy of 464 foot-pounds. These are +P rounds capable delivering greater speed and force than standard defense rounds and should only be used in firearms rated for +P ammunition. These are defense rounds at their best.
There are 20 defense rounds in this single box of ammunition. Hornady Critical Duty rounds are designed to penetrate barriers such as automobile glass and heavy winter clothing without the nose of the bullet clogging so expansion continues unhampered and attackers are brought to a halt. These are new production, nickel-plated brass cases with boxer primer. The neck opening and primer pocket of each round is sealed for corrosion resistance and longevity. Hornady manufactures ammunition at their longtime plant in Grand Island, Nebraska, according to exacting standards. If you want to load your .45 ACP with terminal performance defense rounds, you want Hornady Critical Duty.
These are +P rounds and should only be used in firearms rated for use with +P ammunition.
