- Q & A
During the Philippine-American War the U.S. Cavalry discovered their handguns were ineffectual against the adrenaline-fueled charges of the Moro Warriors. After suffering casualties due to the lack of power the cavalry set about finding a new caliber for their men. Among the tests undertaken were the somewhat controversial Thomspon-LaGarde Tests, which involved firing rounds into livestock and cadavers. The end result was the .45 ACP and the decision that it made the most catastrophic wound cavities and provided the greatest stopping power.
These .45 ACP rounds weigh in at 220 grain, making them heavyweights for the cartridge size. Being a heavier round means they’re capable of inflicting a more devastating wound, which is exactly what you want from a defense round. These are Hornady’s FTX round; these rounds begin to expand immediately upon impact, mushrooming while simultaneously slowing down to create a substantial wound cavity. Because these are +P rounds they’re capable of greater speed and force than standard .45 ACP rounds; each round has a muzzle velocity of 975 feet per second and muzzle energy of 464 foot-pounds. This ammunition is specifically designed for self-defense.
There are 200 defense rounds in this box of ammunition. These are Hornady Critical Duty rounds, designed according to FBI standards for penetration and performance. Each round is produced in a virgin nickel-plated brass case with boxer primer and sealed to last longer. Hornady has been manufacturing ammunition since 1949 and continues to come up with new, innovative ways to produce superior rounds. Production takes place at their longtime factory in Grand Island, Nebraska, and all ammunition goes through extensive testing and strict quality control measures. If you want to load your gun with reliable defense rounds capable of terminal performance, place your order now and find out what your .45 ACP can really do.
These are +P rounds and should only be used in firearms rated for use with +P ammunition.
