More Details About This Israeli Military Industries 55gr FMJ 5.56x45 Ammo
IMI Systems’ primary job is supplying ammunition to the Israeli Ground Forces, but they make plenty enough 5.56x45 M193 to export the United States as well. If you’ve got an AR-15, then this ammo is perfect for any kind of target shooting you could think of (with the exception of long-distance).

What does M193 mean? It’s nothing to worry about – that’s just the designation the U.S. Armed Forces gives to the most basic kind of 5.56 ammo they issue. This round’s full metal jacket boat tail bullet hasn’t got a nose cavity, soft point or polymer tip, and as such is unsuitable for hunting medium game and a bad choice for home defense. The FMJBT is simply designed to retain its seating depth while recoil jerks it around in the magazine, feed smoothly, and conserve velocity downrange so it can fly straighter and resist getting blown off course by crosswinds.

This is brass-cased, Boxer-primed, noncorrosive and reloadable ammo, fresh out of IMI’s factory and not old war surplus. Military grade brass cases usually have discolored necks. This does not indicate that the cases are reloaded; they were heat-treated for added durability, but they not shined up afterward for better cosmetics. This ammo’s packaging is a little unusual: 30 rounds to a box, 40 boxes to a case.

Very Good Ammo

Performance

I ordered this because I thought it would be high quality ammo. I was right. No failures yet and it's accurate enough for me. I'm not going to get into ballistics, because there are a lot of folks smarter than me who can comment on that.

However, when I bought it I asked myself, why 1200 rounds? I think it's the only brand on this site that offers 1200, most brands offer 1000. (They have updated the pictures since I bought it. Good job ammoforsale!)

Well, it comes in boxes of 30 rounds and most of my magazines are 30 rounds. I like that, it brings balance to the Force.

I have not researched it, but I think I know why we changed from 20 to 30 round magazines.

I served in the Marines in the 80's and we had 20 round magazines. The 3 round burst was relatively new in the fleet. I think we went to 30 round magazines because you can squeeze the trigger 10 times and get a three round burst even on the last burst.

Again, this is just my guess, but I think they started selling 1000 rounds because 1 box of 20 = 1 20 round magazine and a case of 1000 rounds will fill 50 20 round magazines. Since I have 30 round magazines now, 1 box = one 30 round magazine and 1200 rounds will fill 40 30 round magazines with no left over rounds.

It's a small thing, but I wish all manufactures would start to offer 30 round boxes and cases of 1200 rounds. It's kinda like stores selling packages of 12 hotdogs and packages of 10 hotdog buns. They should match.

Sorry this is getting long, but one more thought. I don't think manufactures should change everything, just offer both options.

The bottom line is I plan to buy this ammo again.
