The .45 Long Colt was designed in 1872 through a joint effort between Colt and the Union Metallic Cartridge Company for the U.S. Army, which adopted it for use in 1873 and kept it in service for 19 years. The .45 Long Colt should not be confused with the more common .45 ACP or the shorter .45 Schofield. It was first manufactured as a black powder round containing 28 to 40 grains of powder, and that combined with a bullet weighing between 230 and 255 grain made it incredibly popular. In addition the .45 Long Colt was known for accuracy. Today it’s used for hunting but is most often used by Cowboy Action shooters.
These particular .45 Long Colt rounds are manufactured by Remington. Each round weighs in at 250 grain, making these solid rounds within the expected weight range for the cartridge size. These are LRN, Lead Round Nose, rounds and so will not expand on impact. Target rounds like these are known for over-penetration and can travel impressive distances before coming to a stop on their own, so make sure there’s a reliable backstop in place during target practice. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 750 feet per second and muzzle energy of 312 foot-pounds. This ammunition is great for target shooting and plinking.
When you place your order for this single box of Remington ammunition you get 50 target rounds. With 50 rounds you can give your classic gun a nice warm-up, but if you want to get some serious trigger time in, order multiple boxes. Of course, these are produced in brand-new brass cases with boxer primer, and that means you can collect your spent casings, reload them, and get even more time in at the range. Remington was founded in 1816 and has two centuries worth of experience behind them manufacturing firearms and ammunition. Today ammunition is manufactured at their factory in Lonoke, Arkansas. Order now and keep your .45 Long Colt ready to go at a moment’s notice.
