Your SKS is a pretty awesome gun. It was designed in 1944 by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov and started seeing use in front-line service with the Soviet military in 1945. And although it was replaced by the 1950’s with the AK-47, it remained in use for second-line service for some time. SKS stands for Samozaryadnyj Karabin sistemy Simonova, which translates as self-loading carbine of the Simonov system. Its name describes its function fairly well, and it’s chambered in 7.62x39mm, making it one of the very first rifles to be chambered in the rimless bottleneck cartridge.
At 123 grain these are relatively lightweight for the 7.62x39mm cartridge. They’re Soft Point rounds, which deliver controlled expansion on impact and created a large, devastating wound channel. If you want solid stopping power, these rounds have it in spades. Each round flies down-range at a muzzle velocity of 2437 feet per second and strikes its target with a muzzle energy of 1622 foot-pounds. This ammunition is ideal for hunting game such as whitetail deer. And since it’s brass-cased and boxer-primed, you can reload it, making this an even better deal.
You get 20 rounds in this single box of ammunition from Sellier and Bellot. That’s just enough rounds to get you started and to give your rifle a snack, so you might want to buy more than one box to keep you both happy. Sellier and Bellot has been in business since 1825 and has a solid reputation in the ammunition industry. They use quality components in their ammunition and load according to SAAMI or CIP specifications. All ammunition is manufactured at their plant in Vlasim, Czech Republic. Don’t let inferior ammunition ruin your next hunting trip. Place your order for these SP rounds and hit the woods.
