- Q & A
The .45 ACP is one big, bold round, capable of compelling force and excellent knockdown power – which is exactly what it was designed for. The U.S. Cavalry discovered their guns were incredibly lacking in power during the Philippine-American War when the adrenaline-fueled charges of the Moro Warriors weren’t even really slowed down by their shots fired. This resulted in more casualties than should have occurred, and led the cavalry to decide they needed to equip the troops with more powerful ammunition. After lengthy testing, including the somewhat infamous Thompson-LaGarde Tests, greater understanding of the sheer size required to deliver a blow strong enough to halt an attack led to the creation of the .45 ACP.
At 230 grain these are heavyweights for the .45 ACP. Being heavier does mean they move a bit more slowly, but they’re still plenty fast, and their greater weight enables them to deliver a harsh blow on impact. These are Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) rounds and don’t expand on impact but simply create a through-and-through and keep on going. Make sure you have a solid backstop in place during target practice, because you never know what an errant bullet might strike before coming to a stop. Each of these rounds has a muzzle velocity of 850 feet per second. This ammunition is best for target practice, tactical training, and plinking.
When you order this big box of ammunition from Silver Bear, you get 500 target rounds. We think that’s fantastic, because with 500 rounds you can improve your marksmanship substantially, not to mention have a great time with your favorite gun. Silver Bear produces these rounds in steel cases with berdan primer for reliable ignition and a longer shelf-life, coating each round in a polymer for consistent cycling. Silver Bear is a subsidiary of the Barnaul Machine Tool Plant in Barnaul, Russia, which was founded in 1869 with the sole purpose of producing ammunition for the Russian Army. Today they distribute ammunition all over the world, supplying shooters like you with economically priced ammunition so you can spend more time at the range without emptying your wallet. Very descent for the price, little dirty, but easier clean then most. No issues, operated well in three different 1911's. would recommend for training and range ammo.
