- Q & A
After the failure of the U.S. Cavalry’s ammunition during the Moro Rebellion, where the crazed attacks of the warriors were nearly impossible to stop with the caliber of weapon the soldiers carried, the military knew they needed a bigger, bolder round. Testing took place throughout the late 1890’s and into the early part of the 20th century and included the somewhat famous Thompson-LaGarde tests of 1904. As Army Ordnance General John T. Thompson once said, the shoddy performance of the Army’s .38 Long Colt had proven the soldiers needed “a real man stopper” and he played a major role in figuring out what that round would be. In the end, in 1904, the .45 ACP was created, and the rest is ammunition history.
In 1866, the Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded by Oliver Winchester, and now, 150+ years later, they remain legendary in both firearms and ammunition. The company became a subsidiary of the Olin Corporation, a venerable company with a stellar reputation that has been involved with Winchester almost since day one. Under the guidance of Olin, their ammunition continues to adhere to strict standards and perform in a superior fashion. The name of Winchester is synonymous with quality and a reminder of the Old West; if you want to feed your gun ammunition from the company responsible for making The Gun That Won the West, you want Winchester.
At 230 grain these are good, heavy rounds capable of delivering massive knockdown power. They’re FMJ rounds and don’t expand on impact, so they’re best for target practice, tactical training, and plinking; due to their greater weight they’re a nice choice for self-defense training because they produce more power somewhat like a defense round will. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 835 feet per second and muzzle energy of 356 foot-pounds. There are 500 target rounds in this box, so you can keep your .45 ACP well-fed for awhile. These are new production brass cased rounds with boxer primer, so you can reload them and get even more range time in. Get your gun-loving hands on this ammunition, and get shooting.
