- Q & A
The .30-06 round was designed in 1906 for the U.S. Army; it was then called the “.30 Gov’t ‘06” and was used by the army for eight decades. For the first five of those decades it was the army’s primary rifle and machine gun round. Today the .30-06 is a vastly popular sporting round capable of taking down various game with its enormous knockdown power. In fact, .30-06 has been used to bag every kind of game from the expected, such as deer, elk, and antelope, to the more surprising, such as bear and bison. Some seasoned hunters have even claimed to have taken down elephant with it. One thing is certain, .30-06 is a fantastic hunting round, and if you use yours to hunt, you need the right ammunition.
These .30-06 rounds are made by Wolf. At 140 grain they’re light-to-medium weight, heavy enough to take down game hard and fast, but light enough to race down-range at incredible speeds. The .30-06 is known for producing significant felt recoil, and, in fact, anything above 20 foot-pounds of recoil can cause many shooters to flinch involuntarily. Using a 140 grain round reduces recoil below 20 foot-pounds, making it a good introductory-sized round for newcomers to the big, brawny cartridge. These are Soft Point, or SP, rounds and expand on impact, mushrooming to create a massive wound track. This ammunition is great for hunting game such as whitetail deer and can also be used for target practice.
When you order this box of ammunition from Wolf you get 25 boxes containing 20 rounds each, giving you a grand total of 500 rounds. With 500 rounds you and your rifle will be well-prepared for hunting season. You’ll have enough ammo to keep your optics zeroed, fire practice rounds to ensure accuracy and placement, and have more than enough left over for the hunt itself. You’ll even have enough to share with friends. To save you money and allow you to shoot at a higher volume, Wolf manufactures this ammunition in steel cases, using berdan primer to ensure ignition. Wolf is a subsidiary of Tula and manufactures these rounds at the Tula Arms Plant in Tula, Russia, according to SAAMI and CIP specifications. Order now, and get out there and hunt!
