- Q & A
This is a great 223 Remington round when you absolutely need precision.
World-class competitive shooters reportedly use Federal’s Sierra MatchKing ammunition to win more competitions more than any other manufacturer’s target rounds. That’s due to the stringent standards Federal adheres to in the creation of each and every round, from their weight to the thickness of their jackets. These rounds have match-grade accuracy with the convenience of factory availability.
This .223 ammunition has a multitude of impressive features that combine to make a superior round. Sierra MatchKing is known for its thin jacket, and the weight and diameter of every round is designed to specific parameters. At 69 grain, they’re fairly heavy rounds and considered ideal by many professional marksmen for competition. These rounds have a muzzle velocity of 3,000 feet per second and muzzle energy of 1,379 foot-pounds. Everything about them has been specially designed for accuracy.
These are also HPBT; the hollow points expand upon impact and the boat tail aids in improving ballistic performance. Competitors require superior balance and smooth trajectories, and with these Federal Premium Gold Medal Sierra MatchKing .223 69 grain HPBT (hollow point boat tail) rounds, they get all that and more. They’re also made in America at Federal’s Minnesota plant. Of course, this ammunition isn’t only for competitors; it’s fantastic for target practice and tactical training, too.
If you want to use what the pro’s do to get the absolute most out of your time at the range, pick up this 20-round box immediately.

- Can I use both 223 and 556 ammo in my AR-556 Posted On: 4/1/2020 By: William Sorensen
- Absolutely! Your AR-15 is chambered for 5.56x45, so it can handle less powerful 223 Rem. Just don't do it the other way around!
