- Q & A
The .357 Magnum is just one of the rounds we have renowned outdoorsman Elmer Keith to thank for, because if it wasn’t for his dedication to hand-loading, this round wouldn’t exist. It’s been on the market since 1934, when it was created as a step up over the .38 Super Automatic. While it was technically the result of a collaborative effort between Elmer Keith, Phillip B. Sharpe, and Colonel D.B. Wesson, Keith was responsible for the lion’s share of its creation. One contribution Keith made was his unique Keith bullet which featured a flat meplat for better energy transfer and greater wounding potential; although the final .357 Magnum round used a bullet that was altered somewhat the original design was at its core.
These .357 Magnum rounds are made by Magtech, a company with decades of experience manufacturing ammunition. Magtech has a step up over many companies thanks to its vertically integrated factory: each and every component, from brass to bullets to propellants, is made right there on-site. Raw materials are used for an even greater layer of control and the fact that rounds are literally produced from the ground up at the Magtech factory gives them far more quality control ability than most companies have. Their ammunition has a reputation for being well-made, yet reasonably priced.
These .357 Magnum rounds are 158 grain, making them medium-weight for the cartridge size. At this weight these rounds are still capable of flying down-range at fairly high speeds while remaining heavy enough for deliver a substantial impact. These are Lead Semi-Wadcutters (LSWC) and do not expand on impact. These rounds are designed to create holes with clean edges for easier scoring as well as greater accuracy. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 1235 feet per second and muzzle energy of 535 foot-pounds. This is fantastic ammunition for target practice and self-defense training. There are 50 rounds in this box. Magtech manufactures ammunition at their plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Order now and get to work honing your marksmanship.
