40 cal: a relatively young cartridge with the experience on its side.
Most cartridges commonly used today were created between fifty and one hundred years ago – or more. There are a few younger cartridges out there, though, one of which is the .40 S&W. It was designed a short 25 years ago, hitting the shelves in 1990 after 4 years of testing and careful handloading. The .40 S&W was a direct result of the 1986 FBI Miami Shootout, during which a pair of serial bank robbers engaged a group of FBI agents in a firefight in the streets of Miami. Both robbers were shot by the agents early on but continued to fight; despite their wounds, the two men managed to shoot every agent but one, and two agents they killed. Afterwards the powers-that-be decided it was high time their agents had more powerful rounds, but without the often-overwhelming recoil of the 10mm, and after extensive testing, the .40 S&W was created.
These .40 S&W rounds are made by Remington, a company which, unlike these 25-year-young rounds, has been around for two centuries. At 180 grain these are heavy rounds capable of impacting targets with serious force, delivering fantastic knockdown power, which is just what you want in a defense round. These are Jacketed Hollow Point, or JHP, rounds and begin to expand immediately upon impact. Their jackets increase overall bullet strength and also help control expansion, allowing the bullet to penetrate more deeply, which means a larger, more catastrophic wound track. Each round has a muzzle velocity of 1015 feet per second and muzzle energy of 412 foot-pounds. This ammunition is made for self-defense.
When you order this box of ammunition from Remington you get 20 defense rounds. That’s just enough to keep your gun and spare magazine loaded and ready for personal protection. If you want to get realistic training time in, you’ll need to order more than one box. Training with your chosen defense rounds is highly recommended for many reasons including the fact that defense rounds produce more recoil than target rounds, so the only way to be confident in your ability to be accurate and deliver good placement is through practice. Remington has half a dozen factories throughout the South, each of which has a specific job; ammunition is manufactured at their factory in Lonoke, Arkansas. Order now, and be prepared to defend yourself.
