- Q & A
The .38 Special has been around for more than a century, and in that time it’s seen a wide variety of use. Today it’s a popular choice for many gun owners who carry concealed for personal protection both as their main carry weapon and as a backup gun (BUG). There are many reasons for its vast popularity including its manageable recoil, accuracy, affordable price, and relative ease of concealment. If you carry your .38 Special for self-defense you should be spending substantial time at the range, because in a self-defense situation your shooting abilities drop to only a fraction of your capabilities at the range. That means the better you are, the better your chances of survival are going to be.
These are 158 grain rounds, putting them right in the middle of the weight spectrum for the .38 Special. At this medium weight they’re capable of reaching good speeds and giving your target a good punch. This is LRN – Lead Round Nose – ammunition designed specifically for target practice, shooting drills, and those days all you really want to do is drill holes in pop cans. The lead in these rounds will deform slightly on impact but shouldn’t be confused with an expanding round. Each round leaves the barrel of your gun with a muzzle velocity of 755 feet per second and leaves its mark with a muzzle energy of 200 foot-pounds.
In order to get sufficient trigger time, you need a lot of ammo, and when you order this box from Magtech you’re going to get 1000 target rounds. That’s pretty great; you’re going to be slinging lead down-range for awhile with just a single box (just think what you could do with two boxes). Magtech manufactures ammunition at their plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and requires all ammunition to adhere to their stringent requirements. They have fantastic quality due in part to their factory being vertically integrated, meaning all components are made on site right down to the brass rolls casings are cut from. You shouldn’t feed your gun just any target rounds. Load your .38 Special with quality ammunition by using Magtech.
