Very fancy bullets can be very nice. There is certainly a time and a place for a pressure-formed polymer-copper matrix core with a skived platinum jacket and a tip made out of the same material used to build the Space Shuttle. But when you don’t care to pay a premium to hunt deer, this 30-30’s JHP will take great care of you too.

This Federal Power-Shok round’s bullet is light for its caliber at 125 grains, and its muzzle velocity gets a boost thanks to it – 2,570 fps, fast for a 30-30. The bullet’s jacket envelops a soft lead core that it leaves exposed with a hollow point nose cavity. The bullet reliably expands outward as it’s plunging into soft tissue, and its jacket helps keep it together so it can keep plunging deeper.

This round’s JHP has a flat nose profile. That makes it a little less aerodynamic, but far safer to load in a lever-action with a tubular magazine. Its complemented by a newly minted brass case, as well as its clean burning propellant and clean sparking primer. This case of ammo is great if you want to put in your hours at the range with the same ammo you’re taking hunting!
