The .38 Special was the caliber of choice for law enforcement agencies nationwide for more than 70 years. It was designed in 1898 by Smith and Wesson, and was originally created as a more powerful version of the .38 Long Colt. During the Philippine-American War, military members using the old .38 Long Colt discovered it was utterly incapable of halting the warriors they came up against, making greater stopping power a must. Over the years, the .38 Special has evolved into the myriad options available today. And if you use one for personal protection or just for plinking, this CCI .38 Special 158 grain LRN ammunition should be on your wish list.
CCI – Cascade Cartridge Incorporated – is a subsidiary of ATK, Alliant Techsystems. They’ve been manufacturing ammunition for more than 60 years, and ATK is a world leader in the production of not only ammunition but missile warning systems and tactical rocket motors. You simply cannot ask for a more impressive pedigree for the ammunition you feed your gun. In order to keep your cost down, CCI uses berdan-primed aluminum cases, which reviewers note seem to eject even more smoothly than some brass-cased rounds.
These are LRN, or Lead Round Nose, rounds, which actually means they penetrate a bit more than flat-nosed rounds. They also deform on impact, leaving a larger wound track than the average FMJ is capable of producing. At 158 grain they’re moderately weighted without being too heavy. They have a muzzle velocity of 755 feet per second and a muzzle energy of 200 foot-pounds. These are American-made rounds, and there are 50 in the box. They’re ideal for target practice and plinking, so get your order in and spend some time slinging lead down-range.
(These are Lead Round Nose rounds. Some ranges have restrictions on lead and therefore do not allow them due to their composition. Please check before using this particular ammunition at your local range.)
