- Q & A
This round’s 240 grain jacketed hollow point is going to be a big problem for anything it slams into. Once the bullet has exited a 4” vented barrel, it’s due to strike a close range target with about 800 ft lbs of kinetic energy. It’ll reach 50 yards with 665 ft lbs of energy as well, and those figures are only going to increase if you’re firing a lever-action rifle instead of a revolver.
The JHP’s jacket does a good job of reducing barrel fouling to conserve accuracy and preventing fragmentation to promote longer penetration depth. The jacket leaves the side of the soft lead nose cavity exposed to help the bullet achieve wider-diameter expansion over a broad range of impact velocities. The JHP’s cannelure keeps it correctly seated in its new brass case, complete with a sensitive Boxer primer that makes the cartridge both reliable and reloadable.
