- Q & A
The .45 ACP is a more than capable combat round, and special forces operators are well aware of that fact. Among those who have adopted the round for use on missions are Delta Force and the Navy SEALs; if this round is considered the ideal handgun caliber for them, it stands to reason it’s more than good enough for civilian use. The .45 ACP is one of the rare handgun calibers outside the magnum realm capable of causing hydrostatic shock with just a target round, a feature important for service members, who are only allowed to use target rounds in combat. You’ll find some Tier One operators with expanding rounds, but service members, for the most part, must use target rounds, which is why it’s a good idea to make those rounds big ones like the .45 ACP.
At 230 grain these particular rounds are considered heavyweights for the cartridge size. Being heavier slows them down a bit, but it also makes them capable of inflicting far more serious damage on impact, and that knockdown power is something you want. These are Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) rounds and begin to expand immediately upon impact. Because they’re jacketed they mushroom more slowly than standard HPs, meaning they also penetrate more deeply, creating significantly more devastating wound cavities. Each of these rounds has a muzzle velocity of 850 feet per second and muzzle energy of 369 foot-pounds. This ammunition is meant for self-defense.
There are 50 defense rounds in this single box of Federal ammunition. That’s enough to keep your gun and spare mags loaded and ready for the worst-case scenario, but not enough to get realistic training in. It’s incredibly important to get trigger time with your chosen defense rounds, because they produce far more power than target rounds, so you’re not going to get accurate follow-up shots without practice. This ammunition is manufactured by Federal at their longtime plant in Anoka, Minnesota. All ammunition undergoes rigorous testing and extensive quality control measures. Place your order today, and while you’re at it, order more than one box – someday, your life may depend on it.
