- Q & A
The .38 Special was designed by Smith and Wesson in 1898 and today, more than a century later, it remains the most popular revolver caliber of all. During World War I it was issued to quite a few soldiers and from 1920 into the 1990s it was the standard issue for police departments across the country. It’s remained popular for many reasons including its manageable recoil and accuracy and is, in fact, purchased by many first-time gun owners. Part of the reason for its manageable recoil is because the .38 Special was originally produced as a black powder cartridge; it’s a low pressure round at 17,000 PSI, although +P rounds are loaded up to 20,000 PSI. If you own a pistol chambered in .38 Special odds are good you use it for protection, in which case you’d better get some target practice in.
These .38 Special rounds are manufactured by Aguila, which is a subsidiary of TECNOS. At 130 grain these are lightweight rounds which has several pros including traveling at higher speeds and keeping felt recoil low. These are Full Metal Jacket, or FMJ, rounds and do not expand on impact. In fact, target rounds such as these tend to over-penetrate, making it doubly important to have a reliable backstop in place during target practice. This ammunition is produced specifically for target practice, self-defense training, and plinking.
When you order this case of ammunition from Aguila you get 20 boxes of 50 rounds apiece for a grand total of 1000 target rounds. With 1000 rounds you can spend significant time working through numerous drills, practicing firing prone, standing, and kneeling, shooting supported and supported, and learning accuracy and placement with your weak hand. By the time you burn through this entire case your skills should be markedly improved, just take your time, be patient, and make every shot count. This ammunition is manufactured at the TECNOS factory in Mexico, which was founded in 1961 and is known for producing affordably-priced rounds, enabling gun owners to shoot at higher volumes without draining their bank accounts. Place your order now and head to the range with your .38 Special.
