More Details About Our 50 Rounds of 165gr JHP .40 S&W Ammo by Speer

When Vernon Speer was 21 it was the height of World War I and he was serving in the U.S. Navy. Along with his regular duties he decided to invent a new airplane engine, and when he did he wanted to make sure it worked. Of course, the only way to do that was to use it, so he found a biplane to install it in and simply hopped in and took it up. The engine worked, and that was just one of many inventions Vernon would come up with over the years. Years later he changed career tracks to enter the ammunition business, renting space in the corner of a grocery store to begin making bullets. Before long his little company became large and he needed more room, so he found a factory on the banks of the Snake River and got Speer Bullets underway on a larger scale. Today Speer has been in business for more than 60 years and they’re well known for their high quality and innovative products.

These particular Speer rounds are for your .40 S&W. At 165 grain they’re fairly heavy, but still light enough to travel at decent speeds. They’re JHPs, or Jacketed Hollow Points, so they begin to expand immediately upon impact, but their jackets control expansion, allowing for deeper penetration than standard HPs can manage. Those jackets also increase bullet strength overall and prevent lead fouling in your gun’s barrel. Each of these rounds reaches for your target with a muzzle velocity of 1150 feet per second and impacts with a muzzle energy of 420 foot-pounds. These are Speer Gold Dot rounds and are specifically made for self-defense.

When you place your order for this single box of Speer Gold Dot ammunition you get 50 defense rounds. With 50 rounds you can keep your handgun loaded and ready for personal protection purposes along with a spare mag and still have a few left over for practice. It’s important to train with defense rounds because they produce more power overall than target rounds which makes shot placement and accuracy more difficult. Considering the fact that your life could depend on your accuracy it’s definitely worth ordering an extra box of ammo to get more training time in. Speer manufactures ammunition at their plant in Lewiston, Idaho. Don’t trust your safety or the safety of your loved ones to just any ammunition; trust the ammunition numerous law enforcement officers count on, and that means Speer Gold Dot. Order now.

i only found two things that i did not like about this load. 1 excessive muzzle flash when fired in low-light/ no-light areas. 2 excessive reciol when compared to similar loads (federal hst and winchester ranger bonded). this is why my current carry load in wichester ranger bonded 180 grain.
