- Q & A
40 S&W ammo came to shooters after a legendary law enforcement shootout. The 1986 FBI Miami Shootout ended up having an impact on both the FBI and the gun world. On that day a pair of serial bank robbers led a group of FBI agents on a car chase that ended in the streets of Miami. A bloody firefight ensued and even though both robbers were shot early on they kept on fighting, even managing to shoot all the FBI agents except for one. Before succumbing to their wounds they’d killed two of the agents, one of whom was an incredibly skilled marksman but had lost his glasses during the fight. Afterwards the FBI decided they wanted a more powerful round for their agents and four years later the .40 S&W was created.
This particular .40 S&W ammunition is manufactured by Remington. Each round weighs in at 180 grain which makes these heavy-weight rounds for this cartridge size. Being heavier enables them to strike target with greater force. These are MC, Metal Case, rounds and do not expand on impact. Target rounds such as these are prone to over-penetration so be sure you have a solid backstop in place during range time. This ammunition is designed for target practice, self-defense training, and plinking.
When you order this box of ammunition from Remington you get 600 rounds: 12 boxes of 50 rounds each. With 600 target rounds you can spend serious time honing your marksmanship, working on improving accuracy and placement, practicing firing with your weaker hand, and shooting from a variety of positions, among other things. By the time you burn through the entire box of ammo your marksmanship can improve significantly, it just depends on you. This ammunition produces a muzzle velocity of 990 feet per second and muzzle energy of 392 foot-pounds. Remington manufactures ammunition at their factory in Lonoke, Arkansas.
