- Q & A
The .38 Special was designed by Smith and Wesson and first entered production in 1898. It’s had quite a history among law enforcement agencies and branches of the military, not to mention its popularity among the civilian population. From the 1920s to 1990s the .38 Special was the standard issue for law enforcement agencies across the country giving it a 70-year run as the favorite of police everywhere. Even when that came to an end many officers continued to carry them as their backup gun (BUG) or as a daily carry off-duty. Yes, the .38 Special is a great cartridge and if you have a gun chambered in it you’re probably in the market for some good ammunition.
These .38 Special rounds are manufactured by Fiocchi, a company that was founded in 1876 in Italy. Each round weighs in at 148 grain making these medium-weight for the cartridge size. That means they’re still light enough to fly down-range at high speeds but heavy enough to strike targets with solid force. These are LWC, Lead Wadcutter, rounds and do not expand on impact. They’re designed to create a neat, clean hole in paper targets which makes scoring easier and more accurate. This ammunition is meant for target shooting.
There are 50 rounds in this box of Fiocchi ammunition. This box is a great size for carrying along in your range bag or pack when you’re headed to the range for target practice. It’s also a nice size for stacking on the shelf of your gun safe for a rainy day (or whatever the weather is when you decide to use it). Each of these rounds produces a muzzle velocity of 750 feet per second and muzzle energy of 183 foot-pounds. Fiocchi’s headquarters are in Lecco, Italy, but they have a factory in Ozark, Missouri, for manufacturing and sales in the United States. Place your order now for some focused trigger time with your .38 Special.

- Will this ammunition work in a S&W 52-2 my understanding is that it should be 710 fps? Posted On: 1/9/2020 By: Gary Stidham
- Hi Gary. The manufacturer lists the tested velocity as 750 ft/sec at the muzzle, so they should work very well in your 52. Let me know if I can assist further in any way. Ralph
